New life for faded shopping plaza could mean new luster in North For Myers
Waldrop Engineering assisted RD Management secure a grant for $1.7 million for redevelopment of the Merchants Crossing shopping center in North Fort Myers. The grant was unanimously approved by the Lee County Board of County Commissioners, and championed by Chair Brian Hamman under the North Fort Myers Revitalization Incentive Program . The funding will be used to off-set project costs for the demolition of Sears and other underutilized retail spaces in the center, and redevelopment with multi-family housing, civic space, and mixed-use amenity areas.
Waldrop’s Staff prepared the grant application and worked with Lee County’s Economic Development and Community Development Staff to ensure the project meets the strict eligibility criteria under the grant program.
We are excited to see this project move forward and serve as a catalyst for future revitalization efforts along the Cleveland Avenue corridor!
